Bill Thompson is the son of Alf and Dorothy Thompson.
Biography
Bill was born to Alf and Dorothy. He is their only child and is the oldest student in the school.
“Young Bill” retains many youthful hobbies, such as playing with model-aircraft. A keen member of the Young Farmers’ Club and an indispensable help to his father. He has no ambition other to keep the farm going when his father is gone, and to breed a Herdwick ram that can win first at the county show.
Personality
Bill is a cheeky and happy young boy. He is the eldest at school (an honour that makes him feel conceited) and the headmaster relies on him to fetch the post for him. He is very keen on his parents' farms and likes to help them as much as he can for when he grows up to step into his father's shoes. If he has to stay at home in bad weather to help his parents, Charlie Pringle is in charge of fetching the post from Pat.
Attire
In series 1 and 2, he wears a white woolly sweater with a yellow raincoat above it. He also wears brown trousers and blue shoes.
From the third series onwards, his outfit remains identical to the outfit he wore in the first and second series, but no longer wears a white wooly sweater and now wears a yellow hoodie with green accents instead of a raincoat.

Trivia
- John Cunliffe had originally intended to make Bill 25 years of age,[2] but later reduced his age to 11, allowing him to be part of the school crowd.[1]
- Because of this change of age, a reason for Bill not being in school in Postman Pat's Rainy Day due to flooding at Thompson Ground was added, as it was originally written with him being 25.
- Bill's model made a cameo in two "Gran" episodes, "Gran the Camper" and "Snow Gran".
- He might have a crush on Sarah Gilbertson, as shown when he kisses her in "Postman Pat's Fun Run".
