Behind the Scenes

Katy and Tom Pottage are the twin children of Herbert and Julia Pottage. They are also the older siblings to their baby brother, Paul Pottage. Both twins are from Greendale Farm.

Biography

Katy and Tom are fraternal twins. Both of them are aged 6 and live with their family on Greendale Farm. They attend Greendale School with the rest of the other schoolchildren in the village.

Personalities

Katy and Tom are the cheekiest twins around. Being young and playful, they often played together and liked to help around their parents' farm as much as they could. Katy is bright, quick, inquiring, humorous, and full of inquisitive activity. Tom, however, is inwardly quiet, inward, thumb-sucking, thoughtful, and follows unquestionably where Katy leads.

They are always excited to see Postman Pat, especially on their birthdays. They love playing games and mostly get along well with the other children in Greendale. Sometimes, they can get into sibling arguments, but they later redeem themselves after that.

Attires

Just like their mother, they dressed quite expensively in good quality denims, T-shirts and brightly coloured wellies.

In the first and second series, they originally had curly hair on their heads, with whilst wearing the same blue outfits as each other. However, in some books, the twins are depicted wearing a red and orange outfit.

From the third to fifth series, both twins have different hairstyle changes; Katy's hair is no longer curly, and now has hair fringes whilst retaining her pigtails, as well as gaining eylashes. Tom's hair is slightly shortened and appears more swept. They now wear outfits that make them distinguish themselves from each other, with Katy now wearing a pink and purple outfit while Tom still retains his blue outfit, albeit in a brighter colour.

Trivia

  • Katy's model made a cameo in two "Gran" episodes, "Gran's Old Bones" and "Snow Gran".
  • Katy and Tom were most likely adapted into Sarah and James from Fireman Sam, this would make sense, as Rob Lee took some inspiration from Postman Pat when creating Fireman Sam.
  • They were the first child characters to have a major role in an episode. In this case, they have a significant role in the first ever episode of the first series.
  • It is unknown why they were removed from the sixth series, despite having significant roles in some episodes featuring them. However, they make appearances in some books based on the sixth series episodes, as well as a cameo on a newspaper in Series 8.
  • They are the only characters in the series that are twins.
