Major Forbes is an old army major who lives at Garner Hall.
Biography
The Major used to be in the army. He also played the tuba in the regiments band, a talent he never lost and then passed onto Pat. He also kept a bull, who once won first prize in the Greendale County Show.
He is a hobbyist; he is known to have a collection of multiple novelty items such as toy soldiers as well as some vintage armour, which are kept at his residence at Garner Hall. His toy soldiers once got stolen and then hidden down a rabbit hole when the robbers got caught. Pat, Jess and George soon rediscovered the soldiers returned them to the Major.
The Major later decided to open Garner Hall to the public. He also put on a film show at the school about his hot air ballooning adventure and military service in Africa. When Greendale was once under the threat of what they thought was a beast, Major Forbes joined Pat to recapture it when it went into the church, but he made sure that the beast would not harm him by keeping well behind Pat. He also took part in the mystery tour and dressed up in his suit of armour.
The Major once wondered if he would need to go to Pencaster for an eye test when he felt that the text in his newspaper was getting too small for him to read, but it was certainly clear that it was his hearing that was failing a bit. He later had a hearing aid, but he did not often have it turned up high for him to hear clearly. So when Pat called at the Hall and the Major did not hear him ring the doorbell, Jess had to climb up onto the roof with his post and jump down the chimney to get it to him.
Personality
He often walked from person to person in a militaristic fashion, but when faced with a dangerous situation, he could secretly be a little bit nervous. He speaks with a posh English accent, often ending his sentences with "eh, what".
Attire
The Major is often shown wearing a green anorak coat with brown tight pants and shoes. He wears black socks and a light green inner shirt underneath his anorak coat. He wears a checkered deerstalker hat on his head and has a Hungarian-style handlebar moustache. He also has white balding hair.
In the film, he wears the same outfit like in Series 2 and the specials, but now has a hearing aid, owing to his hearing problems as well as a fedora hat instead of a deerstalker hat on his head.

Trivia
- In early books he was known as Colonel Forbes. He also had a dog called Snap.
- In "Postman Pat: The Movie", it is revealed that Major Forbes has a hearing aid. Also in this film, his hat was a fedora instead of a deerstalker.
- He is one of the few characters to have hearing problems, the other being Granny Dryden.
