Summary
Garner Hall is opening to the public, but Miss Hubbard is having trouble organising the story of the house when Granny Dryden's grandfather’s diary is lacking excitement. Ted is restoring the suit of armour, and then he decides to try it on. But then he gets stuck inside it, and he can't see where he's going. He crashes about the hall, with Pat chasing after him. Differences between the book and TV versions
- In the book version, Pat mimics Miss Hubbard's voice when he says, "Keep still", she said, "and they won't sting you" when he remembers the events of Postman Pat and The Bees while driving to Miss Hubbard's Cottage, which he didn't do in the TV version.
- In the book version, we see inside the cellar of Garner Hall, but we don’t in the TV version. Also, Pat asks, "Is it you, Ted?" when he finds Ted in the suit of armour in the cellar in the book version, but he says, "Hello, suit of armour", in the TV version.
- In the book version, Pat fumbles around in the dark cellar before he finds Ted in the suit of armour, but he just finds Ted in the cellar in the TV version.
- In the book version, after Miss Hubbard reads through the old diary, everyone goes to have tea and scones with raspberry jam.
- At the end of the book version, visitors come to Garner Hall and see the suit of armour standing in its place. They also get told the story of Ted’s incident with it and pass the word.
Trivia
- The Garner Hall poster would later become permanent at the post office from Series 3 to 5, A Surprise in Series 6 and Postman Pat and the Cheeky Sheep in Series 7.
- Miss Hubbard's desk at her cottage was previously used as Mr. Willmake's office desk from Woodland Animations’s other show "Bertha".
- On the way to Miss Hubbard's Cottage, Pat remembers the last time he helped out with her bees. This might be a reference to the book "Postman Pat and the Bees".
- This is the first time we see inside Miss Hubbard's Cottage. We would later see its interior again in Postman Pat takes Flight, but the study would be completed revamped.
- One of the sound effects the suit of armour is making would later be used for the robot postman in Postman Pat and the Robot.
- The suit of armour would later appear in the second series finale, Postman Pat and the Mystery Tour, when Major Forbes would dress up in it.
- The suit of armour is now owned by Cosgrove Hall Archive.
- Ted says "Ta-ra, Pat." when Pat leaves his workshop. That line was reused from Postman Pat and the Hole in the Road.
- In the 2000 audiobook cassette, Ken Barrie's voice for Miss Hubbard from Series 1 and other audio cassettes that Ken voiced from 1986-1991 does make a return when Pat copies the words Miss Hubbard said last time when Pat had trouble with her bees. Carole Boyd still voices Miss Hubbard in the audio cassette.
Goofs
- In the very first shot, Pat and Mrs Goggins are not seen in the post office.
- Pat should have shut the door when he was inside Miss Hubbard's Cottage.
- Miss Hubbard is smiling when she says "For heaven's sake, man, shut that door".
- At the beginning, the narrator says Pat is collecting the post from Garner Bridge Post Office, which is actually Greendale Post Office itself.
