Postman Pat Wiki
Main Page

When Sam Waldron does his job of selling items from his ever-growing shopping catalogue to Greendale's locals, he uses a blue mobile shop van with the registration plate SAM 1 (later renumbered 806 IOX). It functions as Sam’s primary mode of transportation, as he mostly drives back and forth from Pencaster and Greendale using the van during his work hours.

At one point, Pat hurt his wrist and he had to do his rounds with Sam in the Mobile Shop, as he was unable to drive his own van. Additionally, the van once got into a road accident when it accidentally crashed into a field because of the Robotic Postman.

Technical Details[]

Design[]

It is a cab-over van with a rather boxy body and blunt cab at its end. It has two vertical hatch doors at the back and has small red and grey wheels.

Livery[]

The van is painted in a bright blue paintjob with purple diagonal banners reading "Sam's Mobile Shop" (stylised in uppercase) in white text on the sides. The van is also fitted with a magenta interior fitting. In the first couple of episodes, the van lacked the decals on its sides.

Basis[]

It is likely to be based on a Volkswagen Transporter or an Ebro F108.

Merchandise[]

  • ERTL (a repaint of the PAT 1 model, discontinued)

Trivia[]

  • The mobile shop never had its banners until Postman Pat's Rainy Day.
  • In Postman Pat’s Difficult Day, the Mobile Shop had the same horn sound as PAT 1.
  • From Series 3 onwards the mobile shop's number plate has been 806 IOX and the banners on the sides are still visible, albeit being hidden behind other vehicles. The van is also usually seen standing in the Greendale Station's parking area.
  • Although Sam himself hasn’t appeared since Series 3, the mobile shop has been seen ever since as a background vehicle.
  • Its sounds are real life recordings of a 1940 Period "Old Banger", which can be found in the BBC Sound Effects Library.
